While this smartphone is considered to be a mid-range, it sure boasts some characteristics that can make it go slightly into the high-end class. The sheer example of that is its screen SUPER LCD5 with a 2K resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It’s also pretty big, sporting 5.7-inches in diameter. To add to that, it sports 513 pixels per inch density, which is insanely good. This is one of HTC U Ultra details that will alone make you purchase it, apart from being so beautiful. If you need just a little bit more convincing, let’s delve further into what makes it so unique and worthy.
The body is a decent size and 8mm thin. It’s not the thinnest phone we’ve seen, but certainly not the thickest either. Also, available in some very catchy-named colors: Brilliant Black, Cosmetic Pink, Ice White and Sapphire Blue. Whether you’re male or female, and going for classic colors or going out of the mainstream, it’s there for you to choose. HTC U Ultra specs include a 3000 mAh battery as well, which is just a standard size for a phone this size. But, knowing the screen is 2K, it will conserve a lot of battery juice to keep it running at a maximum. We’d recommend lowering it if you’re far from a power outlet.
Furthermore, for a price of HTC U Ultra – $333, you’ll be getting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 Quad-core processor. This, of course, isn’t the best there is at the moment, but a pleasant change from HTC U Play‘s Helio P10. There’s an Adreno 530 GPU added in the mix, which makes for a very good performance pair. In the end, there’s 4GB of RAM for you to use, and you probably won’t need more – it’s fast enough as it is. Moving on to the camera – and you’ll find it very good.
We’re talking 12 MP on the back, but not only that, laser and phase detection autofocus along with optical image stabilization. The front one has even more resolution, 16MP, and can record 1080p videos with the auto-HDR feature. Going back to the functionality of the back one – it will surprise you with 2160p resolution of videos in 30 frames per second. This allows for cropping unwanted parts, leaving you with the best edit possible. All of that is placed on an Android 7.0 (Nougat) out of the box, which is great, and we suppose there’s a planned upgrade in the future.
To wrap up, we’ll talk about storage option you have in front of you. There’s a possibility to choose either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, depending on your needs. Furthermore, if that isn’t enough for you, you can add a microSD card instead of a 2nd SIM, and expand it up to 256GB more. The only possible bad feature from what we’ve seen is the lack of a headphone jack. Depending on your habits and earphones you already possess, this might be a problem. If you don’t have any, you can get their recommended ones which plug into a USB-C slot or just go for Bluetooth ones.
