Asus launched the gaming-centric ROG (Republic of gamers) Phone 5 on the 26th of April 2021. It’s a premium smartphone that performs brilliantly in multiple departments, including gaming. Seeing how the minimum price of the phone is $999, the phone needs to do good in many areas, and it’s safe to say that it doesn’t disappoint. The device is powered by the top-of-the-line Qualcomm SM8350 Snapdragon 888 5G processor based on the 5 nm technology. It has an octa-core processor and a massive AnTuTu benchmark score of 731376. The Adreno 660 handles the gaming and graphic requirements of the smartphone.
The device runs Android 11 out of the box and the Android skin is ROG UI. Coming to the smartphone’s dimensions, it measures 6.80, 3.04, and 0.41 inches in height, weight, and thickness. Coming to how heavy it is, the device weighs 238 grams. The device has an aluminum frame along with a glass front and glass back. The glass back is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 while the glass front is protected by the top-of-the-line Gorilla Glass Victus. It supports two Nano-SIMs, 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G connectivity.
RGB is synonymous with gaming, and Asus has paid special attention to it by including an RGB light panel on the back. The smartphone also has pressure-sensitive zones, to improve your gaming experience. The screen size of the Asus ROG Phone is 6.78 inches, while the screen resolution is 1080 x 2448 pixels. It has an AMOLED panel and the phone can go up to 1200 nits of brightness. The phone has a screen-to-body ratio of 82% and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The phone comes in four configurations, 8 GB RAM with 128 GB of internal storage, 12 GB RAM with 128 GB of internal storage, 12 GB RAM with 256 GB internal storage, and 16 GB RAM with 256 GB of internal storage.
The storage type here is UFS 3.1 and not eMMC, meaning the phone will be faster. For color, there are two options, Black and White, which Asus calls it, Phantom Black and Storm White. Coming to the camera, the phone has a 64 MP wide camera, 13 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 5 MP macro camera on the back. With the rear camera setup, you can record not just 720p and 1080p videos, but also 4K and 8K videos. However, you could only record 1080p videos with the 24 MP front camera. Camera features include LED Flash, HDR, and panorama.
The Asus ROG Phone 5 comes with a massive 6000 mAh non-removable Lithium- polymer battery. It supports fast charging and gets completely charged within an hour. It has USB Type-C 2.0 at the bottom and USB Type-C 3.1 at the side so that your gaming experience doesn’t get hampered even when the device is charging. The smartphone also supports 10W reverse charging. The phone retains the 3.5 mm headphone jack and comes with DTS:X stereo speakers. The Asus ROG Phone 5 supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Hotspot, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. As for the sensors, the device has a Fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and compass.
