HP LaserJet 1020 Plus Printer is one of the most popular laser printers from HP. The printer has cheap pricing for a quality laser printer like itself and has plenty of room to incorporate around 150 sheets for printing black and white sheets as per the user’s requirements. The product doesn’t look stunning compared to other HP products or the competition making it more focused on the quality instead of the design. The product is just a printer and doesn’t come with any copying or scanning mechanisms as we’ve seen in many other HP printers such as the HP Envy 4520. So, this is not an all-in-one printer to accomplish all your printing and scanning tasks. Instead, a product entirely focused on printing quality black and white pages for you.

The pricing is a bit high compared to the traditional ink-jet printers out there because of the laser machine that would save you some bucks that would’ve been spending for the ink cartridges. However, the power consumption will be higher for the device than the regular ink-jet printers. The printer can print around 11-20 black and white pages per minute which will be enough for printing an entire book in a few minutes. The large input and output tray capacities make 1020 more compatible with continuous printing tasks without having to refill the pages in the tray every few minutes. The output tray has a capacity of 100 pages, means that you should remove them as soon as the pages pile up. That shouldn’t be a problem for regular home users. We wouldn’t recommend using the printer for commercial purposes or for heavy printing all day as the printer is not specifically made for such operations.

It has no screen or additional controls apart from those functions that you can control from your Windows machine printing settings. So, you won’t be able to track the printing tasks or the remaining pages to be print right from the printer. You will have to depend on your software to track such things. Of course, you will hear the sound of printing the pages, but apart from that, no additional details will be provided because of the lack of the screen. The LaserJet 1020 Plus Printer supports many page types including the A4, A5, A6, B5, postcards, and envelopes with an adjustable input tray. The printer can be used to print up to 5000 pages per month making it compatible for heavy duties every once in a while, however, if your printing tasks need something more than 5000 pages every month, do not go for it.

The printing quality is pretty good with a resolution of 600×600 dpi (1200 dpi effective output) which is more than enough for the black and white printing. You won’t be able to print color on the printer. If you need a color printer which is a laser one, you would have to spend some considerable amount of money on that as they don’t come for affordable rates.

    Good Printer

Not the best printer out there. But as long as the laser printing and the quality of the print is concerned, one of the best out there. I've been a fan of the HP printers for a while due to their print quality. This one is definitely a popular product. Many of my friends are also using it for their school projects. Once I printed a long textbook copy out of it consisting of around 500+ pages in total. The printer was able to print all of them without any quality loss. I've seen many ink-based printers lose quality over time especially while printing a lot of pages all at once. But one thing I love about laser printers is their ability to maintain the quality of the prints even after hundreds of copies.
