Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the contender to the throne that came out of Sony woodworks this year – and a decent try at that, considering that you really don’t know what Sony considers a flagship anymore. Is it X? Z? Y? That is why we’ve got Sony Xperia XZ Premium to guide the way of a return in great style this year. Speaking of style, it is not actually its best suite, knowing the type of phones out there. It looks like a thing of the past, a bit chunky and boxy. Sharp edges are unapologetic for this day and time. It’s not all bad though, and we’ll take a look at some other Sony Xperia XZ Premium features:

Colors are extremely pleasing to look at, and some models have a polished, shiny surface that can act as a beautiful mirror. Being square has an advantage that you can actually place the phone standing up, and unlike Samsung’s flagship, Sony placed the fingerprint sensor on the side. That one is ingeniously designed and extremely practical for everyday use. Sony Xperia XZ Premium stands out with its 5.5-inches screen and an extreme 2160 x 3840 pixels 4K resolution. Sony has tried to make a trademark feature out of, but it looks better on paper than in reality.

The screen has approximately 807 PPI density, but this fact doesn’t seem to mean a thing. Human eye just cannot spot a difference in resolution on a screen of this size, so the 4K resolution is pretty much an overkill. You’re better off buying another smartphone, you probably wouldn’t spot a difference. Now let’s delve into some other specs of Sony Xperia XZ Premium. The internals is top of the game, used by other companies flagships, and that means a lot when choosing whether to buy Sony’s phone.

Beasts that powers it is the almighty Snapdragon 835 processor, but with only 4GB of RAM, which still hasn’t started to hurt. You’ll be able to enjoy good graphics and a pleasant interface and navigate easily. We can thank the built-in Android 7.1.1 Nougat for that, in combination with Adreno 540 GPU. The option to upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo is present and ready. Some bad features will stay, like for example reaching all the way to the top to bring up notification bar. We’re sad that even though it has been eliminated on some other competitors, it is present here. Sony Xperia XZ Premium is a bulky phone, towering over Samsung S8, for example. It’s even wider, and not for the right reasons – you’re not getting a bigger screen, nor the bigger battery. A 3230 mAh capacity is lower than some other smaller phones.

But for a price of Sony Xperia XZ Premium being about 583$ you’ll be getting something no phones have. The ‘Super Slo-Mo’ camera – the camera can shoot slow-motion videos at an unprecedented 960 frames per second. Although only for a 2 second at a time, and the resolution drops to 720p, the effects are insanely great. Unheard, even, except on professional cameras. In conclusion, it is obvious that Sony doesn’t make Samsung or iPhone lookalikes. Obviously, Sony Xperia XZ Premium certainly isn’t a mainstream smartphone. If you’re a fan of that, this is the phone to go for.
