If you’re truly intrigued by having a nearly invisible under-display selfie camera, ZTE Axon 30 5G is your only real option. Now, it’s not like you can’t get such type of camera from other phones—you can. It’s just that no one else has been able to do such a fine job of hiding it. We’re talking about the fact it’s hard to notice unless you look very closely. However, this doesn’t translate to great selfie camera performance. The phone’s overall camera is average, but the main 64 MP wide-angle and 8 MP ultrawide cameras deliver decent performances.
In addition to the aforementioned cameras, the phone has a 5 MP macro and 2 MP depth sensor camera on the back. As previously mentioned, selfies are handled by the 16 MP wide-angle under-display camera. Its camera features include Dual-LED flash, gyro-EIS, HDR, and 10‑bit video. As for video recording, the phone can do so up to 4K@60fps. The phone’s other highlights include its great overall performance and amazing display quality. It’s no surprise that the overall performance is great since it has Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G chipset.
While the aforementioned chipset isn’t the best chipset in 2022, it has plenty of power to handle even the most demanding tasks like gaming. Gaming on ZTE Axon 30 5G is smooth thanks to the Adreno 650 GPU. Where the company has also done a great job, is ensuring that the temperature of the device stays under control during long gaming sessions. For this, ZTE should be praised, and also for the fact that it doesn’t come with bloatware. On the software end, the device runs Android 11 with My OS 11 on top. Moving to the display side of things, the phone has a 6.92-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The PPI density of 400 is good, but the screen-to-body ratio of 80.8% could have been slightly better. Yet, you will have a pleasing time, consuming content on this phone. The presence of high-resolution audio and a loudspeaker certainly adds to the experience. The headphone jack is expectedly absent. To counter that, ZTE has supplied a USB-C-to 3.5 mm adapter in the box of this device. Where the phone could have been better are the design and battery departments. It has a Corning Gorilla Glass-protected glass front with a plastic back and frame. ZTE Axon 30 5G scores top marks in terms of looks, but it doesn’t feel sturdy.
We recommend using a solid quality cover in case you choose to buy this phone. Compared to the competition, it is slightly lightweight at 189 grams. Coming to the dimensions, it measures 6.70 by 3.06 by 0.31 inches. For colors, the options are Black and Aqua. As for the battery department, the phone can get you over the day on average use, but not much beyond that. ZTE Axon 30 5G has a 4200 mAh Li-Ion battery which is on the shorter side. On the bright side, the phone supports 65W fast charging, which is phenomenal.
Connectivity options include USB Type-C 3.0, USB On-The-Go, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 5.1, dual-band Wi-Fi, and a Hotspot. The gadget has all the usual sensors. It comes in at a starting price of about €500 (roughly $526) and in four RAM/ROM combinations. These are 6 GB / 128 GB, 8 GB / 128 GB, 8 GB / 256 GB, and 12 GB / 256 GB. While it does support an SD card, it comes at the cost of your second Nano-SIM card. ZTE Axon 30 5G can handle connections up to 5G, as evident from its name.
